It’s that time of year again! Time to start planning what to buy for the special people in your life. If one of those special people is a freelancer or entrepreneur, then you’re in luck! I’ve put together a gift guide for freelancers and entrepreneurs, particularly those who work from home like I do.

Freelancers and entrepreneurs (especially newbies) are obsessed with getting their businesses off the ground, but sometimes that comes with challenges like trying to stay motivated and learning how to be productive while working from home. The gift ideas on this list will help freelancers stay motivated, be productive, and even look after their mental health.

Goal Setting Planner

Most entrepreneurs will have an idea of where they want their business to go but aren’t quite sure how to get there. They’ll need to set goals to help them clarify what they need to do and to help them stay motivated. Working from home can be a lonely experience for some people. Sometimes they just need some background noise to remind them that they’re not alone in the world. And anyway, have you really made it in the freelancing world if you haven’t sat in Starbucks with your laptop? 😊

If your freelancer lives in a downtown condo like I do, surrounded by construction on all sides, then chances are they’re being slowly driven crazy by noise. Perfect for listening to background music to block out construction noises while they work (or if some annoying loud people show up at Starbucks).

Coffee Warmer

There are a lot of distractions when you work from home. A potential client emails you and you want to get back to them straightaway. You just have to finish one more thing before you take a break to drink your coffee. You suddenly remember that load of laundry you need to put on. All the while, your coffee is going cold.

Fitbit

The most useful gift I’ve received as a freelancer was a Fitbit Charge. When you work from home, you don’t have a lot of excuses to get up and move around, so a watch that beeps at you once every hour is a great reminder to get some exercise.

Entrepreneurship Books

Sometimes we need to read someone else’s success story to make ourselves believe that it can happen for us as well. The holidays are the perfect excuse for your favorite freelancer to take the time to read inspiring stories and start gearing up for success in 2020. Here are a couple of ideas to get you started.

If they’re afraid to take the leap to start their own business, check out Work at Home by Caitlin Pyle. Caitlin started proofreading from home after getting brutally fired from her office job. After successfully running her business for several years, she started teaching others how to start their own proofreading businesses through her Proofread Anywhere courses.

Her book Work at Home isn’t strictly about proofreading. It’s about getting into the right mindset to start a business and overcoming the self-doubt and obstacles that stop you from being successful. And it includes a 30-day launch plan so you can start your business with a bang.

Another book that will help freelancers stop fear in its tracks is Do It Scared by Ruth Soukup. Do it Scared will help them identify their Fear Archetype and will give them practical solutions for how to overcome their fears.

You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero will teach them how to get rid of their fear of taking risks while also making them laugh. Perfect if they’re sick of hippy-dippy self-help books. She also has another book called You Are a Badass at Making Money.

She Means Business by Carrie Green is a must-read for all female entrepreneurs. It’s full of stories of successful female online entrepreneurs and actionable steps to help you grow your business. Read my review of the book to find out why it’s so good.

Fingerless Gloves

It can get very cold when you’re sitting around on your laptop all day. You can’t put on your normal gloves because then you’ll end up typing all sorts of nonsense! Fingerless gloves are the perfect solution. I found some cozy but stylish options on Etsy from CherryT Co and LoveEweNatural.

Inspirational Quote

When a freelancer is plugging away day after day on their business and feeling like they’re not making much progress, their motivation starts to get low. An inspirational quote hanging on the wall near their desk might be just the thing to give them a burst of motivation. Here’s my favorite set from Amazon.

Beautiful Photography

If inspirational quotes aren’t their thing, maybe they would appreciate one of these gorgeous calming prints by Irish photographer Maggy Morrissey to hang on their wall. When all their doubts start to bubble up, they can gaze at the print and quiet their busy mind. Maggy’s prints have a painting-like quality to them and are printed on high-quality archival paper giving them a really luxurious feel.

 

Moleskin Notebook

This is the kind of thing that freelancers might see as outside their own budget while they’re funding their new business. A moleskin notebook brings a little bit of luxury to a boring task. Who doesn’t love a fancy notebook?

Wireless Mouse

On to a couple of very practical gifts. I’ve been stealing my boyfriend’s wireless mouse for months now. Working on a laptop is great, but I sometimes miss how easy it is to navigate with a mouse. It just makes life easier! Choose a colorful one if you want to jazz up the gift a bit!

Tablet Stand

A newbie freelancer might have a bit of a makeshift office setup. Two large screens would be lovely but not always affordable in the beginning. I use both my laptop and iPad when I need two screens. That’s where this tablet stand comes in handy.
